(609) 961 in Avalon, NJ

I keep getting these calls from the 609 area code and they always hang up. I have received 32 calls since Nov 11. Can anything be done about this?

On 11/14/25, I received a call from an obvious scammer pretending to be with a VISA/Mastercard fraud unit. The typical delay occurred before the scammer came on the line after my cellphone rang and the usual scammer sweatshop background chatter could be heard. I confronted him as a scammer and he immediately hung up. I suspect that the scammer is using the phone system which switches the original call from outside of the USA to local area codes to avoid detection and perhaps to appear legitimate to persons receiving such calls.

Keeps sending threatening text messages

Called twice and doesnt say anything, but I can hear there is someone there

This number rings in my home countless times each week.

They called to "help" me understand the warrant out for my arrest! They claimed the Treasury had notified me of pending action against me for bad tax reporting in 2012. She gave me a name and a "badge number". She claimed the written notice must have gotten lost in the mail, because they sent it via regular mail, since it didn't contain any private information. Watch out for this one! Names used: James Gaskin and Lisa Brown, but they both had accents, the phone connection was bad and there was way too much background noise.
