The caller claimed to be with the "county medical register" and said he was a supervisor with the Health Dept. Why would the "Health Dept." call after 7:30 in the evening and tell you that they were aware of surgery that you had several years ago without even asking who they were talking to. Definitely a SCAM!!

The caller claimed to be with the "county medical register" of the health department. He introduced himself as a supervisor and started to tell me that he was aware of some type of bladder procedure that I had many years ago (which, by the way, I've NEVER had any type of bladder procedure). How could he know anything about my medical history when he didn't even ask who he was speaking to? When I questioned him as to how he got my private medical information, he asked if I was Mrs. __________. When I stated that I was not who he thought he was talking to, I reminded him of HIPPA laws and that he was breaking the law by simply talking to the wrong person and that Mrs. ______ would be very upset to find that out. When I asked him if he even knew what HIPPA was, he was silent. I then told him that I knew this call was some sort of scam and that I was going to report it. He immediately hung up. Last little clue: The Health Dept. would never call anyone at 7:15 in the evening. Government offices usually close between 4 - 5 pm. Last of all, he hung up before I could really find out his purpose for calling. I'm guessing it was some sort of telemarketing scam or he was phishing for personal information. I am a little worried that he got our home number, which is unlisted.

Just random calls.
