Talking to other guys and spam calls

My husband's employer just fired a former employee a day ago due to insufficient work quality. Today, my husband told me that his employer has been receiving calls from individuals offering remodeling work in houses, but they say that they won't allow the paint jobs to happen "unless Daniel does the work." Daniel was the name of the employee that was recently fired. My husband is a partner within the company and when he attempted to call the person back, they instantly hung up on him. He thinks that the employee who was fired is having people he knows make these extortion calls.

Called 5 times in 2 days

I am on the Do Not Call list. I want these calls to stop.
